EMF

I spent last weekend in a field with near three thousand other like-minded hackers, nerds and all round lovely people.

Electromagnetic field is a camping festival held biannually ^(is biannually the right word, or is that twice a year?)^, for those with an inquisitive mind, or an interest in making things: hackers, artists, geeks, crafters, scientists, and engineers.

Arriving there, I was greeted by exactly the bunch of people I like, people building, taking apart, learning and messing around with all manner of electronics, materials, music, tech and everything between.

It was my first year attending, after having wanted to do so since hearing about it 8 odd years ago - unfortunately successive events and a global pandemic put a stop to me attending previous years - and without a doubt I'll be aiming to attend the next in 2026.

Having not been before I didn't really know what I was in for, with a few talks I was interested in attending and a couple of workshops I had my eye on.

As it turned out, I managed to get to two talks, visited several villages, spoke to a man about his giant robot, ate deep-fried buckfast (before sinking a fair bit of it), learned a lot about bats and how to find them, and spent an inordinate amount of time dancing to some very nerdy hardcore trance.

Next time, I want to bring something - with all the weird and wonderful on display it would be great to be able to contribute.

I'd also potentially not camp across from null sector. I without a doubt love a wee bit of techno, but was able to feel it just as strong in my sleeping bag as I was dancing away to it.

So potentially move, or just stay up, we’ll see.

I'll drop a couple of (terrible, I know) pics here, and find a better way of hosting them at some point.
